Some thoughts on leveling

What is the best way to level a death knight? Or the best build? No clue. But I can tell you a pretty good one. For better or for worse you leave the starting instanced questline leveled 58. How is that level in anyway significant? You can skip Azeroth altogether and head straight for the Hellfire Peninsula, where questing is fun and easy. I suggest sticking around until 62 or so than progressing to Zangarmarsh. At around 64-5 go to Nagrand. Just about the time you finish the quests there you’ve reached the next content stepping stone of 68, which allows you to head where all the people already are: Northrend. More on that as I go the cold continent. However feel free to stick around until 72 if that’s what floats your boat.

The Build

As I came back to WoW I saw a changed game. Back in the day there was a consensus that each class has an uber build and only some more than 1 viable options (or at least so the forum scribes claimed, and me being a mostly casual player at the time listened). Today, they claim (and from the little experience of WotK I have, I agree) that most options are in fact viable. I think the best to do is to focus on one skill three. If you like soloing like me the infamous Blood Build is a great option at level 58. Click here to see mine, the rotation that goes with it is Ice Touch>Plague Strike>Heart Strike (1 or 2 adjust according to mob)>Death Strike>Dump your Death Coil (if the mob is down, I use it on the next one as an opener). After you get some levels under your belt, you should check out this amazing guide by Krenian. As of level 68 I am using his dual wield frost build. My view is that by the time you get to 80 you should try all the better builds out there: first to get some general experience with each, second so that you find what suits your playstyle best.

And some general tips

*Don’t be afraid to solo group quests. You can solo most elite mobs up to a level or 2 more than you if you manage to squeeze in the micro. If you fail return a level or 2 later and get your revenge!

*Do battlegrounds, they’re a good way to get some gear ready and waiting for when you reach 80 and now they also give you XP!

*Your gear will last you at least until 68-70, but there are two great weapon upgrade options as you reach Nagrand. For the two-haded sword people, take Halaa and buy your very own Halaani Claymore, don’t mind the color it’s on par with a blue, or if you are an axe guy do this quest line.

*Don’t level to show off, enjoy your journey. Stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

Suffer well, Aclyn
